UPMASAn for Spring 2023 is Dr. Catalino De La Cruz from NJ-NY-CT Chapter

Our UPMASAn for Spring 2023 is Dr. Catalino De La Cruz, UPCM Class 1968, the New Jersey – New York – Connecticut Chapter UPMASAn for November 2022.  Dr. De La Cruz completed his Internal Medicine Residency in UP-PGH in 1971. He then trained in Internal Medicine at the Martland Hospital (an affiliate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry) in Newark, New Jersey from July 1971 to June 1974. This was followed by a Fellowship in Cardiology in the same institution from July 1974 to June 1976. He then became Clinical Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He held several positions which included Director of Cardiology in East Orange General Hospital in New Jersey, Chief of Cardiology and Director of the ICU-CCU and Telemetry Unit at the Columbus Hospital in Newark, NJ. He was the Medical Staff President at the Columbus Hospital.

Dr. De La Cruz is Board-Certified in Internal Medicine and in Cardiovascular Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Society of Echocardiography. He is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the NJ area and has an Invasive Cardiology Practice in Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark and Clara Maas Medical Center in Belleville, New Jersey.

Amid his busy work schedule, he is an active member of the UPMASA NJNYCT Chapter since its founding in 1982. He was a Board Member during the terms of Drs. Bienvenido Jongco and Lourdes Publico and was the Chair of the Board of Directors from 2009 to 2015 during the terms of 3 NJNYCT Chapter Presidents, namely Dr. Anita Ortega-Jongco, Roy Guinto, and Winston Umali. He is proud of the accomplishments of his two children – a daughter who is an Internist and a son who is a lawyer. He has 3 granddaughters, one of whom graduated summa cum laude in Computer Engineering at the University of Southern California. Dr. De La Cruz continues to practice Internal Medicine and Cardiology. He enjoys traveling and playing golf with his golf friends. His message – “Live healthy and stay young at heart.”

He continues to support the Chapter and UPMASA National, and has encouraged and guided new UPCM graduates, and new Chapter officers.
